After more than 20 years of distance running, Tom Hergenhan was no stranger to the occasional ache or strain. But even after completing the 2024 Boston Marathon with an impressive time of 3:11, he found himself sidelined by persistent left knee pain that wouldn’t go away.

Having previously undergone surgery on his right knee, Tom knew his body well, and knew when it was time to seek expert help. His wife, Michelle, had also been treated by Dr. Armin Tehrany at Manhattan Orthopedic Care, and her positive experience gave Tom the confidence to trust Dr. Tehrany with his own knee.

Following a comprehensive consultation and MRI, Tom was diagnosed with a lateral meniscus tear and a grade II ACL sprain. After thoughtful discussion and weighing all options, he elected to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery. Dr. Tehrany performed a lateral meniscectomy, synovectomy, and chondroplasty, using minimally invasive techniques to preserve joint function and promote a smooth recovery.

“I’m now pain-free… and back at it five days a week.” – Tom Hergenhan

Thanks to Dr. Tehrany’s skill and supportive care team, Tom’s recovery went smoothly—and more importantly, he’s now back to running five days a week, something he couldn’t do before surgery.

“I’m grateful for the excellent care and support from Dr. Tehrany and his team,” Tom shared. “Thanks to their expertise, I’m able to continue my fitness journey without any complaints!”

At Manhattan Orthopedic Care, our goal is to get passionate people like Tom back to the activities they love—stronger, pain-free, and ready to hit the road again.
